Block copolymers composed of chemically different components exhibit unique solution properties depending on the nature of solvent. Here, the effects of the solvent quality in PS-b-PEO diblock copolymer solution on the thin film morphology were investigated. By adding a selective solvent to block copolymer solution where the block copolymers are initially dissolved in a good solvent, the solvent quality is gradually changed from neutral to selective solvent. Indeed, it was shown that the copolymer solution becomes opaque by addition of a certain amount of selective solvent. Block copolymer films with different thickness are generated by spin-coating, solution-casting, and dip-coating for comparison. In addition, the same strategy is applied for block copolymers containing a small amount of salts which are expected to be more sensitive to solvent quality due to PEO-salt complexation. Results will be presented on as-cast films as well as annealed films. |
