Fabrication and evaluation of starch/PVA hydrogel for Tissue engineering application |

Starch and polyvinyl alcohol has been widely used in packaging material and drug delivery due to its biodegradability low cost and renewability. In this study, different starch/pva hydrogel blends were fabricated using lyophilization with citric acid as cross-linker for tissue engineering application. Morphology of hydrogel was evaluated using SEM, and characterized using FTIR, contact angle measurement, swelling, degradation measurement and pore size distribution analysis. In-vitro study such as MTT assay and fluorescent staining using different cell lines (L929 cells, MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblast cells and BMSC) were carried out to evaluate cytotoxicity adhesion, proliferation and in-vitro performance. Results of the study showed interconnected porosity, good swelling rate, slow degradation rate and no cytotoxic effect in-vitro, which make starch/PVA hydrogel suitable scaffold for different tissue engineering application. |
