Usually, graft copolymers exhibit different properties due to their structural differences from block copolymers. There are three main ways to make graft copolymers, grafting-to, grafting-from and grafting-through called macromonomer technique. Using macromonomer for polymerization is the simpler way to make graft copolymer. In this study, living anionic polymerziation of isoprene carried out under high vacuum. Then, sequential introducing 1,1-diphenylethylene and 4-(chloromethyl) styrene to living polyisoprene progressed for synthesis of macromonomer. Poly(styrene-g-isoprene) was synthesized by radical copolymerization of macromonomer and styrene. Hydrogenation of polyisoprene performed by diimide reduction reaction. The synthesis, hydrogenation and thermal characteristics of graft copolymer were analyzed by 1H-NMR, GPC and DSC. Based on the results of these analysis, it could confirm the synthesis of graft copolymer and the progress of hydrogenation was varied by reaction time. |
