Near infrared light-responsive core cross-linked polymeric micelles of poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) utilizing diselenide cross-linker |

In this study, near infrared light-responsive core cross-linked micelles of poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PEO-b-PGMA) block copolymers were prepared by a diselenide cross-linker using click chemistry. Diblock copolymers of PEO-b-PGMA were synthesized by the RAFT polymerization and subsequently were functionalized with azide groups. The micelles of azido functional PEO-b-PGMA-(N3) were cross-linked by dipropargyl 3,3’diselanedyldipropionate in the presence of copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate and sodium ascorbate using alkyne-azide click reaction. The block copolymers and cross-linked micelle were characterized by using gel permeation chromatography, fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, and dynamic light scattering analysis. The core cross-liked micelle presented a stable structure and cleavage of diselenium bond occurred in the presence of reactive oxygen species under near infrared light irradiation. |
