The present study demonstrates that new types of binary colloidal crystal structures were successfully fabricated using elongated colloidal crystal replicated patterns as bottom layers. By adjusting the lattice space of the bottom layer and the size of the top-layer small particle, it is possible to produce various novel binary colloidal crystals which have complex structures. There were termed zigzag-LS2, wide-LS3, wide-LS4, wide-LS5, single-line-LS, double-line-LS, dimer-LS2 and tiled-dimer-LS2. Especially, it is remarkable that colloidal crystal linear structures which are never achieved conventional binary colloidal crystal but very useful for many lithographic applications were achieved. We believe that this new approach expands the diversity and complexity of colloidal crystal structures, thus colloidal crystals possibly replace other expensive lithographic method which are used to applications in fielding photonics, electronics, and nanofabrication. |
