Vertical integration of multi-electrodes into a single sheet of paper for high-density flexible energy storage devices |

Paper-based electrodes have been researched for flexible energy storage devices such as supercapacitors and batteries. Herein, we propose a facile method to fabricate vertically integrated multi-electrodes into a single sheet of paper. Despite the randomly distributed fibrous networks in a paper, the three-layered Au electrodes are uniformly formed and completely separated by applying a removable hydrophobic wax barrier confinement inside the paper substrate. As a supercapacitor electrode, the Au electrode within the paper with electrodeposited MnO2 exhibits 711 mF cm2 of areal capacitance. The integrated multi-layer electrodes can be used as the high-energy supercapacitor with ultimate flexibility.The three-layered electrodes within a single sheet of paper are used not onlybased on the parallel circuit but also based on the pseudo-serial circuit by simply changing the contact pad grounding. |
