Flame Retardancy and Physical Properties of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate/Recycled Aluminum Trihydroxide Composites |

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymers with different vinyl acetate contents are extensively used in the wire and cable industry as non flammable insulating materials. Recently, aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) is most commonly used to give flame retardancy in this polymeric insulating material for control cables. In the present work, flame retardancy and physical properties of EVA/recycled ATH composites were studied. Recycled ATH was obtained from recycling process for multi-layer packaging film wastes. EVA/ATH composite samples were prepared using a two roll-mill. Morphologies and mechanical properties of composite were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and universal testing machine (UTM). Flame retardancy of EVA/ATH composites were examined using Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) and Flame Retardancy Test (UL94) analysis. |
