Rapid population growth, urban sprawl, in-creased energy usage and transportation cause serious air pollution in many cities around the world. The most hazardous compounds among volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX). Main sources of BTEX are transportation, power plants, industrial enterprises, and construction works. Humans are exposed by BTEX through a respiratory system and skin contact. For the reason, VOC should be removed in air. Among the technology for air purification such as sorption, thermal, catalytic and photocatalytic oxidation, and biofiltration, adsorption is the most economical and simple method. In this work, we have chosen effective adsorbent to remove toluene in the air. More systematical experiments have been performed under various conditions. After then optimization of adsorption process has been carried out to develop air pollution reduction technique. |
