Recently, as the use of plastics increases, the importance of recycling plastics is emerging. In particular, impurities (e.g., water, acidic impurities, etc.) can be generated in the oil extracted from the pyrolysis of plastic wastes, which lowers the recycling rate of plastics. Accordingly, Oil-water separation is essential process to reduce the proportion of impurities in the recycling process of waste plastics, and it also helps in oil spill accidents and oily wastewater treatment. In this study, a membrane filtration system that can separate a small amount of water in a large amount of oil was fabricated. A stainless steel mesh was utilized for the oil-water separation, and to increase the efficiency, the hydrophobicity and oleophilicity was imparted by simple dip coating and spray coating methods. As a result, the separation efficiency of water was confirmed to be greater than 99% through a UV spectrophotometer under the simple gravity driven flow of the oil-water mixtures. |
