Structure and Properties of High Impact Polypropylene |

High impact polypropylenes (HIPP) are produced mostly by polymerization of pure propylene in the 1st reactor followed by copolymerization of propylene with other α-olefines. HIPPs thus produced are composed of biphasic or multiphase structure. Since the phase structure and the crystalline morphology affect the impact properties significantly, HIPP was fractionated into four fractions using xylene, benzene, and heptane to investigate the mechanism of the impact strength enhancement. The chemical structure of each fraction was examined by FTIR and 13C NMR. The impact properties increased with increase in the rubber fraction and were depended greatly on the molecular weight of the rubber fraction. |
