Solution processible polyimide (PI) has been developed to overcome the problem in processing conventional insoluble and infusible PI. However, since their thermal and mechanical properties are deteriorated, there have been approaches of hybridization with inorganic materials, such as PI/silica nanohybrids. The most widely sudied method to PIs/silica nanohybrid is using sol-gel process. However, there is a compatibility issue between two components. In this study, we used silsesquiazane as a precursor to silica to prepare PI/silica hybrids. Two different types of soluble PIs were used, PI with functional hydroxyl group and Matrimid® with asymmetric chain structure. The morphology and thermal/mechanical properties of the prepared PIs/silica nanohybrids were compared to check teh effect of structure of soluble PIs on the compatibility with silsesquiazane and the properties of the resulting hybrids. |
