Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been attracted a lot of interest because of their unique mechanical, electrical, thermal, and structural properties. They have difficulty in dispersion into a various matrices such as solvents, polymers and other inorganic media. To make CNTs dispersible in the matrices, sidewall functionalization of CNTs has been extensively carried out through oxidation in acidic media such as sulfuric acid, nitric acid and their mixture. However, the acid treatment generates undesired defects, which sacrifice their outstanding properties such as thermal and electrical conductivities. To identify the stability of CNTs in such acids, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) was dispersed in corresponding acid at 100 C with respect to various times. |
