In second order nonlinear optical polymers, cross-linking can be used to increase thermal stability of chromophore alignment. Polyaniline is a well-known conducting polymer with large optical absorbance. It can be cross-linked without any cross-linking agent simply by annealing. Therefore, it could be a good candidate for thermally stable NLO polymer. We synthesized polyaniline-based NLO polymers which was prepared from poly(2-aminobenzoic acid)(P2ABA), P3ABA and P4ABA as main chain and Disperse Red-1 in the side chains. As the poling temperature increased, NLO coefficient of the polymers increased up to the decomposition temperature of the chromophore. This value was stable up to 250 ℃ - 300 ℃ depending upon the structure of the polymer. |
