Nanocarbon materials containing fullerenes and carbon nanotubes have been intensively investigated due to their unique structure, and electric and mechanical properties. In particular, the preparation of thin films containing fullerene is of great interest from both a fundamental and a practical point of view. During the last decade, several approaches such as vapor deposition, Langumuir-Blodgett (LB) membranes, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), self-organized lipid membranes, and supramolecular incorporation have attracted considerable attention as methods for fabricating the fullerene thin films with high quality. In this study, the construction of fullerene multilayers using layer-by-layer self-assembly method is reported. An important feature of this approach is that film composition and thickness is controlled precisely on the molecular level or nanometer scale in the fullerene ultrathin films, and thus these ultrathin films will be more suitable for the study of microelectronics. |
