Dispersed catalysts for total conversion of heavy oil |

Due to the growing demand of middle distillate and worsening quality of supplied crude, heavy oil upgrading (HOU) has attracted much attention from oil refinery industries in recent years. Among HOU technologies, slurry-phase hydrocracking allows the total conversion of the bottom of the barrel compared to other technologies. To make the process commercially viable, efficient design of hydrocracking catalysts is essential. Dispersed catalysts are widely practiced for slurry-phase hydrocracking and should be prepared to meet the following criteria; high dispersion in heavy oil feedstock, and deep conversion of residue which are not easily converted into light fractions. In this presentation, the hydrocracking performance of several new dispersed catalysts including organometallic precursors will be discussed. |
