SYNTHESIS AND PROPERTIES OF WATERBORNE POLYURETHANE-POSS MARINE COATINGS |

Waterborne polyurethane-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (WBPU-POSS) dispersions were prepared through a pre-polymer process using different POSS content (1-2 wt%). The goal of this study is to explore the potential use of WBPU-POSS in marine coatings in order to boost the flexibility, adhesion and foul release property with respect to POSS content. The structural elucidation of the synthesized WBPU-POSS was carried out by FT-IR, and 1H-NMR spectroscopic techniques. The XPS analysis indicate that the coating surface can be silicone enriched with the optimum POSS content (1.5 wt%). The antifouling property of the coatings was investigated by the immersion test under artificial salt water for 90 days. After 90 days the best resistance from fouler attachment was observed using optimum POSS content (1.5 wt%) among all of the coatings. |
