제목 Silica aerogel encapsulate with silica shell for thermal insulation application
초록 Over the course of a century, architectural techniques have evolved. Climate change necessitates architecture that is more flexible to the environment. So it is an immense challenge to design smart thermal insulation materials. To address this problem, in this study we have encapsulate hydrophobic silica aerogel with hydrophilic silica shell for thermal insulation application. We investigated the chemical composition and thermal performance of encapsulated silica aerogel with the help of Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermalgravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphology and microstructure study revealed through the SEM and TEM that the silica aerogel successfully encapsulate with silica shell. The thermal conductivity analysis showed that by encapsulating the silica aerogel, the thermal conductivity of encapsulated silica aerogel were improved from 0.298 W/mK to 0.254 W/mK.
