Over the past several decades, numerous nanoparticles have been developed and used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) with photosensitizer (PS). However, the problems of being insoluble in water and not selectively accumulating in tumor site have been a hindrance to clinical applications. In this study, we developed AuNR-PS conjugates with glutathione (GSH) sensitive linkage. In addition, this AuNR-based nanocarrier can also be used as photothermal therapy (PTT) by emitting heat by near-infrared (NIR) light. AuNRs with various aspect ratios were synthesized and biocompatible copolymers including targeting ligands were used for surface modification. Their physicochemical properties, singlet oxygen generation, drug release and photothermal activities were investigated. In vitro cell viability and cellular uptake were also evaluated against MCF7 and A549 cells. |
