The challenge for current photodynamic therapy (PDT) is effective treatment of cancers at a deep tissue level. However, most commercial photosensitizers use high energy light as a light source, preventing deep penetration of light source. Nowadays, the use of upconversion nanoparticle (UCNP) has opened a new gate for overcoming this problem by converting low energy light into high energy light. In this study, UCNPs were synthesized under various conditions by hydrothermal method. Then, biocompatible block copolymer with targeting ligand were introduced into the surface of UCNPs and PSs were also conjugated for PDT action. Their morphology, chemical composition and optical properties were analyzed. In addition, in vitro cell viability and cellular uptake were determined using MCF7 and A549 cells. |
