Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are interesting nanomaterials due to their unique properties. CNTs could be used for providing ideal templates to immobilize various nanoparticles (NPs) including Pd, Pt, Au, Ag, and bimetallic Pt-Ru to functionalize CNTs. Among the diverse metal NPs, Au NPs might have a wide range of feasible applications, such as catalysis, medical diagnostics, and biological images. In this study, Au NPs were immobilized onto the surface of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) via covalent functionalization of SWNTs using N,N’-bis(2-pyridylmethyl) 2-hydroxyethylamine (BPMEA-OH). Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra showed the functionalized SWNTs. The morphology of the resulting SWNTs/Au NPs composites was observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy with X-ray microanalysis (FE-SEM/EDS). The catalytic activity of the SWNT/Au NPs was investigated by UV-Vis spectrometer. |
