Material developments in chemistry and polymer science and engineering have contributed the rapid growth of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) industry. In the 3D LCD TV, the 3D images are projected either by SG (Shutter Glasses) mode or by PG (Polarized Glasses) mode. In the SG mode 3D LCD TV, stereoscopic images are made mostly by electronic devices such as converters and switching glasses. However, in the PG (Polarized Glasses) mode, stereoscopic images are constructed by selective filtering of the mixed circularly polarized images by polarized glasses through the Film Patterned Retarder (FPR). The FPR was commercialized by LG Chem for the first time in the world by constructing alternate patterns of left and right circular polarization stripes on a film substrate using novel photoaligning material. In this presentation, LG Chem’s proprietary novel photoaligning material and its features will be presented. |
