Porous carbon materials have attracted considerable attention in the fields of separation, catalytic process, electronics, energy and environmental applications due to their promising physical and chemical properties (i.e. high surface area, large pore volume, good conductivity, low bulk density, thermal stability, etc). In order to apply the above, the fine control of the porosity, pore size, as well as periodicity in the form of two-dimensional array has been demanded in contrast to the conventional techniques. In this work, we show a novel approach to control the nanostructure of the two-dimensional porous carbon arrays by the combination of electron irradiation and modified templating process. Depending on the duration of heat treatment, this strategy demonstrates that the pore size and periodicity (i.e. close packed or non-close packed) can be systematically controlled by heat treatment of electron irradiation-induced polymeric shell at relatively low temperature. |
