Polypropylene(PP) is an important and widely used commercial polymer due to its versatile properties. However, it exhibits low impact strength at the low temperature, and its heat deflection temperature is lower than engineering plastics. Therefore, PP has need to blending with engineering plastics such as polycarbonate(PC). However, polymer blends display phase dispersion and have poor mechanical properties because of the lack of miscibility. In this study, effects of the PP grafted with glycidyl methacrylate(PP-g-GMA) on the miscibility of PP/PC blends, and also of the modified PP blended with polybutylene terephthalate(PBT) on the miscibility of PP/PC blends were studied. Morphology and PC particles distribution of the PP-g-GMA/PC blends were observed by SEM. The mechanical properties and the thermal properties were investigated by UTM and DSC respectively. PP-g-GMA was analysed by FT-IR in order to determine the amount of GMA grafted onto PP. |
