Effect of association of drug into ceramic compounds on cellular responses |

Ceramic materials are widely used as biomaterials. However, ceramic processing conditions are harsh to associate with organic substances, i.e. drugs. Therefore, it is rare to associate ceramic biomaterials with organic drugs for bioactivity improvement. Consequently, polymers have been major means as drug carriers. In this study, we investigated the association of drug with ceramic compound and examined the effects of the drug-association on cellular responses, particularly bone-related cell. Drug association was analyzed and cellular responses including adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation were examined. Our result demonstrated that the drug was successfully associated with ceramic compound and strongly up-regulated cellular responses. We expect this technique can be utilized for the reinforcement of ceramic biomaterials. |
