제목 Highly photocatalytic activity of nano-sized TiO2 for degradation of methylene blue in water under UV irradiation
초록 Titanium dioxide nanoparticles were synthesized by hydrolysis using an economic inorganic compound TiCl4 in a mixed solvent of tert-butanol and water. As-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV/VIS diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), etc. Methylene blue (MB) is a representative of a class of dyes resistant to biodegradation. The TiO2/UV photocatalytic degradation of MB has been investigated in aqueous heterogeneous suspensions. The results showed that the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 powders prepared from the mixed solutions with the volume ratio of t-BuOH/H2O = 3 exceeded that of Degussa P-25, ST-01, ST-21 and ST-31. Addition of hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) as a steric dispersant made it possible to reduce the size of particles to the submicrometer range.
