Drag-reduction properties of the SPCs resin containing PEG groups |

The self-polishing copolymers (SPC)s have been variously applied to antifouling paints, and they released biocides by the mechanism of a hydrolysis or ion exchange reaction of an acrylic polymer in seawater. The poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) has been used as a drag-reduction(DR) additive in the pipeline and there were researches of proving the DR effect of that. In this study we synthesized Zn-based SPCs resin and we selected 3 kinds of the monomer containing PEG groups for adding FDR (frictional drag-reduction) effect to SPCs resin. The structures of the synthesized polymers were confirmed by using 1H-NMR and FT-IR. Then we checked drag-reduction rate by measuring Rotor test and PIV(particle image velocimetry). In addition, we examined the antifouling performance of the resins through the immersion test and abrasion test. |
