Mesoporous MgO nanoparticles have been synthesized via chemical combustion route by using simple fuels (F) such as glycine (G) and urea (U). The obtained MgO nanoparticles are evaluated for their application in CO2 sorption at elevated temperatures (100~300 oC). The developed sorbents were thoroughly characterized in terms of nature of fuel, F/O ratio, crystalline structure, morphology, nature of dispersion and their consequent effect on CO2 sorption. During the process of synthesis and application, it was deduced that due to preferential complexation of MgO precursor with the fuel (predominantly glycine), the uneven precipitation of MgO has been controlled and this assist in producing MgO with nano crystallinity. Among the sorbents tested, MgO-1.5(G) shows highest sorption corresponding to 1.34 mmol/g at 200 oC.
