Global interest in biomass-derived resources grows more and more as traditional energy resources face numerous problems such as depletion and environmental pollutions. Accordingly, we had reported facile synthesis of 5-acetoxymethylfurfural (AMF) from lignocellulosic biomass which can be used as a convincing alternative to HMF, green platform chemicals. AMF possesses advanced properties arising from its less hydrophilic acetoxymethyl group instead of the hydroxymethyl group of HMF leading to easy separation and purification. Furthermore, we studied functionalization of it into several value-added furanoic derivatives. Especially we focused on 2,5-dimethylfuran(DMF); promising liquid fuel with moderate boiling point(92-94℃) in terms of its high-research-octane-number(RON=119) and high-energy-density(30 kJ/cm3). Herein, we report the synthetic studies toward efficient conversion of AMF into 2,5-dimethylfuran(DMF) via reduction process under various reaction conditions such as catalysts, solvents, temperature, pressure and etc. |
