Bacteriophage (phage) has been used as a useful material for various applications other than for microbiology study. Phages have been engineered for therapeutic and diagnostic purposes. For example, display technology was developed by using M13 phage to discover specific antigen peptide from a variety of candidates. Recent studies have now paid more attention to the phage’s ability to selectively target a host. Phage as a binding element with high affinity and high selectivity offers a promising application in biosensor development for bacterial detection. There have been several studies that used phages as binding element, and the phages were physically immobilized on solid platforms by surface chemistry techniques. However, the optimal density of the immobilized phages for optimal bacteria detection is still unknown. Herein, we show optimal phage densities for host bacteria detection are studied and determined. |
