The annual waste coffee grounds generated during extraction process amount to about 120,000 tons a year in Korea, which cause various environmental problems. Recently, the research to recycle it as a useful resource has been extensively studied in the fields of energy, adsorbent, construction, agriculture, and bio-foods. Recycling into porous media such as an activated carbon, the pre-treatment process such as oil removal can affect the final properties of activated carbon. In this study, highly porous activated carbon for supercapacitors was prepared through pyrolysis and CO2 activation process using the residues after oil components were removed from coffee grounds under various conditions. The effect of oil removal conditions from coffee grounds on the physical and chemical properties of the final activated carbon was discussed focusing on pore structure and electrical conductivity. |
