Characterization of heavy oil fly ash generated from a power plant |

In this work, the physical and chemical properties of heavy oil fly ash generated from a power plant were investigated. The chemical analysis showed that the main contents of heavy oil fly ash are composed of carbon, sulfur and residue ash. A possibility of reutilization as a black pigment for secondary cementious material was investigated by the analysis of particle size distribution, color, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscope (SEM). The particle size ranges from 10 to 120 ㎛, and XRD data confirms that it is mainly composed of amorphous carbon. Characteristic color of heavy oil fly ash was similar to carbon black. This study has found, heavy oil fly ash has the potential to be reutilized as a black pigment or admixture for secondary cementious material. |
