Hydrodynamic Similarity between Riser of Batchwise and Circulating Fluidized Bed |

The hydrodynamic similarity in relationships between a riser of batchwise and circulating fluidized bed (CFB) for the solid flow rate and the solid inventory was investigated. The emptying time was measured in batchwise riser with different particles (diameter: 0.064 ~ 0.201 mm; apparent density: 2045 ~ 4080 kg/m3) as bed materials and gas velocities (1.5 ~ 2.4 m/s) in a batchwise riser (Dr: 0.1 m, H: 2.75 m) under ambient temperature and pressure. The experiment was performed in the riser of the circulating fluidized bed (Dr: 0.1 m, H: 2.5) with the same particles and gas velocity as the batchwise riser in sequence. The solid inventory in the riser was measured with different solid flow rates. The solid flow rate in the batchwise riser was linearly proportional to the solid static bed volume in the riser. The slope of the relationship was presented with the elutriation rate constant proposed by Choi et al. (1999). The flow rate of solid in the riser of the CFB showed a similar relationship with the static bed volume of solid. The relationship was compared with the solid flow rate and static bed volume measured by prior studies. |
