제목 Drug-delivery surgical suture for reduction of scar formation
초록 Scar, mostly formed locally at the wound, is troublesome for the patients after surgery. Especially with the patients at a high risk of hypertrophic scar, this would be considered serious. For this purpose, we suggest a surgical suture enabled with delivery of an anti-scarring drug, tranilast. To fabricate the drug-delivery suture, we separately prepared a drug-loaded sheet of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), which was physically assembled with a surgical suture in clinical use. The drug-delivery suture herein could release the drug for up to 10 days. For evaluation, a rat, which was induced scar at dorsal skin, was made. Afterwards, the site of scar induction was sutured by the suture and biopsy was performed at 5, 7, 12 days after surgery. Via H&E and IHC staining, the slides were assessed for collagen orientation, TGF-β and fibroblast, where the drug-delivery suture in this work was shown to reduce the scar formation effectively.
