Enhanced Degradation of Bisphenol A by porous Mn-Fe2O3 via photo-assisted persulfate activation |

Porous Mn-Fe2O3 composite was prepared, characterized and used to activate persulfate (PS) for the degradation of bisphenol A (BPA) under UV irradiation. The influence of operation parameters including Mn loading, catalyst dosage, and PS concentration on the catalytic activity was investigated. The results showed that 50 ppm BPA was completely degraded within 30 min in UVA/PS/Mn-Fe2O3 system with high pseudo-first-order rate constant (k) of 0.0624 min-1, superior to those of PS/Mn-Fe2O3 (0.0369 min-1), UVA/PS/Fe2O3 (0.0021 min-1), and UVA/Mn-Fe2O3 (0.0002 min-1), respectively. The synergistic effect between Fe and Mn for the redox transformation of Fe3+/Fe2+ and Mn3+/Mn2+ was thought to be the reason for the enhanced BPA elimination, high mineralization efficiency (99 % within 60 min) and excellent recyclability. |
