제목 Acid-treated Chitosan for the Fabrication of biodegradable Microneedles Patches
초록 Transdermal drug delivery system is an attractive way to transport drugs across skin. In particular patch-type microneedle (MN) arrays are effective to deliver drugs by creating micron-sized holes. Biopolymers have been used for the fabrication of MNs as a key material for drug delivery carrier. Among them, due to high biocompatibility and biodegradability, chitosan has been widely investigated MN materials. However, poor solubility and high viscosity in aqueous solutions at neutral pH limit the use of chitosan in MN fabrications. In this study, we report a facile way for the fabrication of chitosan MN patches by using simple acid treatments with trifluoroacetic acid. The acid-treated chitosan showed an increased solubility in DI water suitable for MN fabrications. The degradation of chitosan MNs prepared by solvent-casting with a mold was controlled by crosslinking density of the chitosan chain, thereby enabling the controlled release of encapsulated drugs in the chitosan MN.
