Extractive distillation is a useful solution for close-boiling mixture separation. However, solvent selection for the extractive distillation is difficult. A novel solvent selection process using molecular simulation was introduced here. A brief introduction of molecular simulation would help to understand how the solvent could be searched for desired separation system. The performance of the selected solvent was reviewed to demonstrate its usefulness. In the process design, the HYSYS was utilized and the design result was compared to that of conventional process. |
