Facile synthesis of iron-based catalysts for the direct CO2 conversion to liquid hydrocarbons |

The progress in the field of CO2 hydrogenation to highly valuable chemicals have received considerable attention over iron-based catalysts. In this work, iron-metal oxides (FeMOx) were synthesized, characterized, and examined to produce liquid hydrocarbons (C5+) from CO2 hydrogenation. The iron oxide shows 4.8% CO2 conversion and 0.7% C5+ yield using H2/CO2 ratio of 3:1 at space velocity of 4000 mLg-1h-1. On the other hand, with the iron-metal oxides (FeMOx) catalysts CO2 conversion drastically increases to 34.6% and C5+ yield increases to 14.3%. The considerable increase in the CO2 conversion and hydrocarbon selectivity, with the addition of metal in iron-based catalysts also enhances the Hägg iron carbide (χ-Fe5C2) phase which facilities the chain-growth reactions. |
