The global consumption of Bio-Jet fuel is20 to 30 thousand tons per year, accounting for only 0.1 % of all bio-jet fuel. The international Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that Bio-jet fuel demand willsurge to 60 million tons per year by 2040. In the case of South Korea, itcurrently consumes about 2% of the world's Bio-jet fuel consumption, and thedemand is likely to increase sharply if Bio-jet fuel is introduced in thefuture following the trend in the international aviation sector. On the otherhand, decarboxylation is a key process in the production of Bio-jet fuel fromvegetable oils to be free of oxygen. In this study, we investigated the effectof sub- and supercritical water (subH2O and scH2O) on thedegree of decarboxylation of soybean oil. The formed liquid product wasexamined by gas chromatography (GC) and elemental analyzer, and the mechanismof the decarboxylation reaction in sub- and scH2O was discussed. |
