Electrochromic Properties of Polyimides Prepared from Methyl Substituted Triphenylamine Moiety with Different Dianhydrides |

A series of solution-processable electrochromic aromatic polyimides (PIs) with triphenylamine (TPA) units in the backbone were prepared by the chemical imidazation from two diamine monomers with electron donating and electron withdrawing group and various dianhydrides. The molecular structures of the PIs were analyzed by means of fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), UV spectroscopy and Cyclic voltammograms (C-V). These polymers were highly soluble in many organic solvents and had high glass-transition temperatures. PI having electron donor groups in TPA moiety showed better reversible electrochemical oxidation and electrochromism than PI having electron withdrawing substituents. Color change from colorless neutral form to blue oxidized form at applied potentials ranging from 0.0 to 1.8 V. |
