In the treatment of hepatic cancer today, photodynamic therapy (PDT) is being attempted to prevent recurrence. However, in the case of photosensitizers (PS) used in PDT, low solubility and non-specific distribution properties limits therapeutic efficiency. Therefore, we designed PS-hydrophilic polymer-triterpenoid derivate (PPT) conjugate that specifically interacts to overexpressed receptor in hepatic cancer cells. It was confirmed that PPT with increased solubility through hydrophilic polymer indicated higher reactive oxygen species generation. PPT showed targeting effect to hepatic cancer cells, and tumor specific cytotoxicity was increased accordingly. In vivo study, PPT was accumulated in tumor tissues, and tumor volume was significantly reduced compared to PS treated group. In addition, hemolysis analysis, liver and kidney function assessment demonstrated that PPT has low side effect. These results suggested that PPT has an excellent effect in the treatment of hepatic cancer. |
