Vitrimers are a new class of polymeric materials that combine the reprocessability of thermoplastics with the superior chemical and thermomechanical properties of thermosets. Ethylene methyl acrylate copolymer (EMA), one of the important ethylene copolymers having various industrial applications, is often employed as a thermoset which is not recyclable. In this work, a EMA vitrimer was prepared by crosslinking with a diol bearing two imine bonds via transesterification, and their thermal and mechanical properties were characterized by DSC, DMA, and tensile testing. It was revealed that The EMA vitrimer shows enhanced mechanical properties as compared to neat thermoplastic EMA, and the presence of dynamic imine bonds enable the crosslinked EMA to have good reprocessability without reduction in mechanical properties. |
