Biodegradable plastics are necessary to solve the environmental pollution caused by commercial plastics. L-lactide which is produced by the pretreatment of Kenaf is synthesized as Poly(L-lactide) (PLA). Cellulose and lignin produced during Kenaf pretreatment are blended with PLA to make composite films by solvent casting. Hemicellulose, the remaining product of the Kenaf pretreatment, is used to produce C5 chemicals such as pentanediol. Therefore, the process in this study is specifically important because it can produce biomass-derived chemicals without the loss of biomass components. PLA is blended with Cellulose and Lignin, these are a ratio of extracted from the Kenaf pretreatment. The hydrolysis test of the composite film is also performed. The composite film also has antioxidant properties due to the phenol group of lignin. Therefore, due to these properties, it can be used as an eco-friendly food packaging material. |
