Currently, as petroleum resources are gradually depleted, research on energy that can replace the existing fossil fuels is attracting more attention. Therefore, to deal with this issue, considerable efforts have been done, especially for the development of biodiesel as the renewable energy. Recently, the research is focusing on developing the low raw material cost process by utilizing the waste oil containing free fatty acids (FFAs) to produce biodiesel. Therefore, the esterification process by converting FFAs into biodiesel using methanol and catalyst is preferable. In addition, to compensate for the disadvantages of the homogeneous catalyst, it is necessary to develop an effective and low-cost production by optimizing the reaction conditions using a heterogeneous catalyst. This study focused on the development of a novel heterogeneous acid catalyst that effectively converted FFAs to biodiesel with high stability in batch reaction. The oxidized carbon nitride as catalysts were synthesized through facile heat and acid treatment; then further characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, BET, FT-IR, and NH3-TPD. |
