제목 Catalytic Abatement of Soot Over Mn-based Oxide Catalysts by Oxidation
초록 The particulate matter (PM) generated in diesel exhaust is one of the primary sources of environmental pollution. At present, the main solution to deal with this problem is the separation of PM by adding Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) particle separator in the exhaust pipe. However, the PM trapped in the DPF needs to be removed periodically. The use of oxidative catalysts in DPF not only reduces the soot oxidation temperature but also soot emission. The basic mechanism involved in catalytic soot oxidation is oxygen transfer from its surface to the soot. In this respect, manganese oxide has multivalent oxidation states (mainly Mn2+, Mn3+, and Mn4+), and the high mobility of lattice oxygen and TiO2 was found to be efficient support. In the present work, we aim to use these two inexpensive, earth-abundant, easily available metal oxides for the abatement of soot. Hence, prepared various Mn-supported TiO2 catalysts by varying Mn composition and evaluating its activity for soot oxidation in both loose and tight contact mode. Similarly, the activity of various kinds of perovskite materials having non-noble metal oxides was also investigated for soot oxidation.
