Electromagnetic interference shielding performance of nano-thick MXene films through self-assemblies |

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding nano-materials are demanded due to the malfunctioning of electronic devices from EM. The systematic exploration of EMI shielding behaviors of 2D Ti3C2 MXene films over a various range of film thicknesses, from monolayer to multilayer were reported. Transfer matrix method was used to interpret the EMI shielding mechanism below skin depth, where multiple reflection becomes significant, along with the surface reflection and bulk absorption of electromagnetic waves. While a monolayer self-assembled film prevents 20% shielding of electromagnetic radiation, a 24-layer film of around 55 nm thickness enables 99% shielding (20 dB), revealing a large absolute shielding effectiveness (3.89 × 106 dB cm2 g−1). This high value performance of nanometer-thick self-assembled MXene films could help in the shielding field of lightweight, portable, and compact electronic devices. |
