제목 Flow and slip behaviors of carbopol microgel solution in microchannel
초록 The fluids used in the coating process with multifunctional films usually have nano- or micro-sized particles, forming microstructure. Due to this microstructure, these fluids show complex rheological properties such as yield stress. In bulk fluid, these fluids were modeled by the Bingham model and the Herschel-Bulkley model. However, those models do not work well when the length scale of the channel is comparable to the size of the microstructure inside the fluid. Therefore, a new understanding of the fluid flow behavior in confined flow is required.

Herein, we investigated flow behaviors of microgel solution in confined flow with microchannel made with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). Carbopol 941 solution was used as a model fluid. A new velocimetry method based on image processing of flow visualization was introduced. We determined that a yield-free model was a more reasonable model to choose for the confined flow of the microgel solution than the Herschel-Bulkley model. Also, we identified the slip behavior to be important for analyzing the confined flow.
