제목 Role of Ar+ pre-treatment conditions in XPS analysis of bimetallic nanoparticles
초록 In this work we provide a quantative example on how Ar+ treatment prior to XPS measurements affects the outcome of the measurements. PtFe alloy nanoparticles were used as a representative material of bimetallic nanoparticles. We revealed that the Ar+ etching handling ions gaving energy of 3keV results into reduction of higher oxidetion states. Thus, treatments using Ar ions of those energies must be avoided for obtaining high-quality  XPS data. One of the key-points of this work is that if cleaning treatment applied before XPS measurements Ar ion energies must be set to 1 keV or lower. Varying current of ion gun we have given insight on the kinetic of surface contamination elimination. Furthermore, in order to give insights on synthesis procedure and support our assumptions about nature of detected compounds we conducted XPS analysis after Ar+ treatment etching significant amount of surface layers. It was revealed that significant amount of metallic iron is present 12nm apart from sample’ surface. Pt atoms were revealed to have not uniform distribution along the depth of nanoparticle.
