Electrochemical water splitting is one of the great strategies to produce clean and pure hydrogen energy. Since the sluggish kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) limit industrial application, development of facile methods to construct highly efficient OER catalyst in alkaline media is crucial. Herein, we report facile synthesis of an amorphous cobalt iron nickel layered double hydroxide on nickel foam (CoFeNi-LDH/NF) by simply immersing nickel foam (NF) in Fe2+, Co2+ salts in aqueous solution. Hydrolysis of Fe+2 and Co+2 results in formation of acidic solution, thus NF is etched and coprecipitated with Fe and Co ions to arrange into CoFeNi-LDH/NF. The CoFeNi-LDH/NF exhibited prominent OER overpotential of 220 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH with small Tafel slope of 41 mV dec-1. The impressive electrocatalytic performance is attributed to the formation of CoFeNi-LDH on the surface of the electrode, which guarantees improved active surface area and rapid charge/mass transfer. |
