Preparation of quantum dot loaded micelles for in vivo imaging |

Luminescent CdSe/ZnS QDs of red emission colors were synthesized and encapsulated with poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(D,L-lactide) diblock copolymer micelles to prepare water-soluble and biocompatible QDs micelles nanoparticles. PEG-PLA diblock copolymers were synthesized by ring opening polymerization of D,L-lactide in the presence of methoxy PEG as a macroinitiator. QDs were encapsulated with PEG-PLA polymers by solid dispersion method using chloroform. The resultant polymer micelles with QDs encapsulated were characterized by various analytical techniques such as UV-Vis measurement, light scattering, fluorescence spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic forced microscopy (AFM). The polymer micelles with QDs encapsulated were spherical and showed a diameter range of 20-150 nm with monodispersed size distribution. The encapsulated QDs were highly luminescent, which have the high potential for applications in biomedical imaging and detection. |
