Osteogenic induction of hMSCs using independent release of bFGF and BMP-2 from hydrogel patterned fibrous scaffolds |

Drug-releasing electrospun nanofiber has been extensively developed as biomimetic three-dimensional (3D) scaffold in various cell or tissue-related studies for last decade. However, despite these efforts, only a few studies have reported on the realization of spatially patterned nanofiber scaffold capable of programmed release of multiple growth factors, which are essential to achieve spatio-temporal control of various cellular behaviors. In this study, we developed hydrogel micropattern-incorporated nanofiber scaffold with capability of independent spatial-temporal delivery of multiple growth factors. As a model system, bFGF and BMP-2 were immobilized onto nanofiber and within hydrogel micropatterns, respectively and the effect of their release behavior on osteogenesis of hMSC was investigated. |
